You've caught me mid-change, where I'm adjusting the script to cover two versions of the game.
I've just checked this and it works for both versions of the game...so I'm not sure why it's not working for you.

Could you do the following and let me know the resulting value:

Code: Select all

Mount the floppy
F12
LOAD adfs::0.$.!Boot 8000
ADFCRC 8000 8830
ADFCRC

About the keyboard issue in Arcade 3 - I just tested a random selection to see if it happens:

- Thundermonk
- Legend of the Lost Temple
- Poizone *
- Fine Racer
- Cyber Ape
- Paradroid 2000
- Rockfall
- FRED
- Zelanites *
- Top Banana
- Pon *

Games marked with a * reset back to the game title screen with all 5 keys pressed at the same time. All others did not reset. If it only happens in some games then I assume this is fixable?

That matches the check in the script, so I'm not sure how its triggering a CRC error. I couldn't reproduce the problem, both versions of the game apply their respective patches and run when I test, so it's a bit odd.

The common factor is probably games that use ESC to quit back to the menu. If you press all five keys at Supervisor (F12), does it trigger an Escape error?

I don't have an A30x0 to test, but did test on some machines with external keyboards which didn't trigger the issue.

It might be worth raising it on Stardot, as someone may have come up with a solution.

No. I'm testing using an A5000 with an external keyboard.

My A5000 is currently broken, but I'll try on an A4000. Could you confirm it's the original A5000 keyboard?

Yes, it is an original A5000 keyboard. It has the A5000 label on the front.

Unfortunately my A5000 keyboard has decided to die along with its parent, so I couldn't test it on the A4000. I did however test all the other A-series keyboards I have and none of them exhibited the problem.

Not that it tells us much, other than an A4000 and/or other A-series keyboards don't have the problem.

I'd raise it on Stardot and see if anyone else can reproduce it with that particular model of keyboard.

OK, I've made a post over there about it in the 32-bit hardware section. Hopefully someone has some insight into the matter.

I took my A5000 keyboard apart to fix it and realised its a membrane - there's no way to fix them, its a design flaw. I mistakenly thought it was only the A30x0 that used that style.

If its a real issue and you want to stay authentic your only option is to use a A3xx keyboard.

I have so many machines I have PS/2 converters on them all and use a RiscPC keyboard and modern optical mouse via a KVM. Admittedly, the current offerings on PS/2 converters for A-series aren't great - they all have their quirks.
