I entered "50MB" in to IDETool as you requested. *free says 52,396,032 free, 32,768 used. I'm not sure how else to tell the "exact size" you're asking for.

A debug log will probably explain what you're seeing, but if I was to guess:
  • the drive was initially formatted with an HForm that writes a MBR partition table
  • the MBR partition table has a 2.91GB partition entry that isn't the "official" Acorn type
  • the drive was later reformatted as "16GB" with a formatter that doesn't clear or update the MBR
So I suspect you have an MBR that's mismatched with the contents of the drive.
Well, as far as I'm aware, from what I remember, I'm "pretty sure" that's not likely to be the case. This is a "CloudDisc" CF card bought brand new from Amazon, put straight in this RiscPC and formatted with RISC OS 4's HForm to E+ format. And that's it. I'm "pretty sure" I did no other buggering about with any other HForm or partitioning before putting it in here. 2.91GB would be a completely bizarre size to pick anyway. Either way, PartMgr's not really showing the live reality of what the drive's doing in the machine :) I notice a weird "HardDisk1" text in the MBR in the debug log below though -- I'm -very- sure that wasn't me, nor would it be the default name from any Acorn HForm surely? (Windowsy?) I might throw the CF through a linux box and completely zero it and start again at some point, just to be able to be completely sure of what's on it, but that marginally misses the point that this is how it's ended up, working fine, and PartMgr is, I would say, mis-interpreting things.

From the log:
  • there's a valid MBR partition table with a 16GB partition
  • the drive was originally formatted as "HardDisc1"
  • its been renamed to "16GB"
  • BASIC somehow managed to translate IF P%=0 AND (type%=1 OR type%=2) to TRUE when type%=0
  • There's a bug in FS.ADFS which isn't setting the drive prefix so it failed to find ADFS::16GB
I've fixed the bug in FS.ADFS, but have no idea how BASIC equated that IF statement to TRUE. We'll have to see what it does when I give you the next update to test.

See if the attached reads the partitions correctly on the Simtec - it's a bit of a stab in the dark.

Not by me. And a bit of googling shows that "HardDisk1" (with a k, as per the debug.txt) does indeed seem to be what Windows calls its drives internally.

Anyway, on to the latest version of version 0.90 ....

Then it just quits.

That still happens if I RMKILL IDEFS, so I guess something in the ADFS bit bugged out?

The "(unmounted)" line is the only wrong/confusing bit I think... because it thinks there's a FileCore in a FileCore for ADFS?

I wonder why the Simtec partitions are showing as different sizes - they were both created identically as "50MB".

I gave this version a spin on my 'main' RiscPC, with Unipod - Simtec IDEFS with 32GB "HyperDisk" DOM.
And ... NADA? Nothing at all in the window.

That's exactly what's on the drive. A "full-disc" FileCore:

It's a quirk of the version of HForm used. Probably with good intentions, HForm now creates an MBR partition to cover the FileCore area. Unfortunately, it doesn't set the correct LBA; in your case its offset by 1 LBA. My code knows it's a FileCore partition but looked in the wrong LBA for the FileCore details (7 instead of 6) hence why it's showing as "(unmounted)" instead of "16GB"

I'll adjust the MBR handler so it shows FileCore partitions as "Reserved" if it doesn't find a matching FileCore drive.

For the Unipod can you see what the following does:
