I'm struggling to get this to run on my Pi 4.

Getting the error 'Not enough screen memory to change to this screen mode'

Running:

RISC OS 5.30
ADFFS 2.88

When ADFFS loads the screen memory in Tasks in set to 0K. If I try and set the screen size - *screensize 160K - I still get the same error.

Have tried from BASIC to set mode 13 but get the above error too.

What am I missing?

It sounds like something is blocking reallocation of memory. Try hitting ESC during boot and bypass the boot sequence, then load ADFFS and see if you get the same error changing to MODE 13 from BASIC.

How much RAM does your Pi have?

Hitting ESC during boot has worked

Although on some loads I get a 'filecore in use' which locks the Pi, but I can live with that for the time being.

My Pi has 2Gb RAM

If bypassing the boot sequence gets MODE 13 working, its possibly something you have loaded that's affecting ADFFS. Are you running and apps via Configure/Boot/Run?

Are you booting from SD? Ddo you have any other drives attached, such as SSD/NVMe? If so, which filesystems are they using?

"FileCore in use" essentially means FileCore has crashed. Does your Pi4 use ADFS4? *HELP ADFS will confirm.

Try going into !ADFFS (hold SHIFT and double-click on !ADFFS) and manually run ADFFS550ov repeatedly - does that reproduce the "FileCore in use" error?

Actually, before you do that just confirm it's loading the Overlay version of ADFFS. Run !ADFFS and confirm *HELP ADFFS shows "ARMv7 32bit overlay high vector"
