I've tracked this down to a bug in the code that resets the Environment handlers when tasks are terminated. In the case of Cobalt Seed, its Error handler was being triggered before its Exit handler when returning to the Wimp, which in turn caused the Wimp to crash.
It's fixed in the 2.80f beta package which is available via PackMan and as a public beta.
