Also, I noticed that ADFFS games seem to have problems if I run them with the WiFi interface active (ie: WiFi icon on the iconbar), like for example Pac-Mania hangs during gameplay or at quit via CTRL+SHIFT+F12.

But without the WiFi interface active, they work perfectly well.

I guess that's expected somehow?

Another small problem: TwinWorld (as installed via !PackMan) doesn't work because the first line on it's !Run file says:

Code: Select all

IconSprites <TwinWorld$Dir>.!Sprites
...But it should be:

Code: Select all

IconSprites <Obey$Dir>.!Sprites
...Because

Code: Select all

<TwinWorld$Dir>
is still not set at that point. Small silly detail easily fixed, so maybe the package should be updated with that change or the game fails to start.

More problems I've detected:

-Alone In the Dark seems to have palette problems: colors look incorrect (it used to look good on old ADFFS versions, I believe...)
-Fireball II fails with error: "Number too big" (???)

I noted that last week, but then forgot to check the certificate was still valid. Thanks for reminding me.

Which WiFi? I noticed "issues" with the R-Comp WiFi stack that I reported to them, but none with the ROOL WiFi.

I'll check and correct, it's probably relying on !Boot to set the folder and I've somehow missed it when testing.

The palette issues are on ADFFS 2.84 only I presume? I'll investigate. I don't recall making any changes that might affect palette changes, but it could be overlay related as I've had to change the timing of VSync to work around flaws in BCMVideo's implementation of overlays.

Fireball II is possibly a typo on the CRC check, I'll check and correct the script. I presume you are using ADFFS 2.84 beta or have manually updated Obey.zip?

Good morning, Jon

The issues with ADFFS+Pac-mania I noticed happened while using the ROOL WiFi.

About the issues with Alone in the Dark and Fireball II: I am using ADFFS as installed via !PackMan, so I looked at the package version and it says 2.83-1.

So it look like it's 2.83, not 2.84, and no, I have not updated Obey.zip manually

v2 from here?

If you update to v2.84 beta or manually update obey.zip I think the Fireball issue might be resolved, I've updated quite a few scripts recently.

Alone in the Dark - I can see the issue immediate on 2.84 but not on 2.83. 2.84 flickers between correct and incorrect palettes, so it sounds like it might be a VSync timing issue in the game, where its changing the palette before the OS resets it at VSync. I'll take a look at the game code to see where it changes the palette and figure out what the root cause is.

I've checked the certs and they are valid. I've also checked I can download via PackMan from the https source - so I would check your certificates are up-to-date. You might need to get the latest from the RISC OS 5.30 image or HD4 as I'm not sure if they're auto-updated. Its probably worth updating to RISC OS 5.30 as ADFFS 2.84 will hang on older RISC OS builds.

@Jon

-I'm already on Risc OS 5.30, installed from latest SD card image, so I don't know what's wrong with the certs, really. Maybe they are not updated on the 5.30 SD image?

-About PacMania problems with WiFi: yes, using the V2. Pac-Mania hangs to a black screen after clearing round 1.
Without the WiFi module, it works fine.

-About Fireball II: I updated both the OBEY and ADFFS to 2.84, and still the same "Number too big" error appears.

-About Alone in the Dark, same palette problem with ADFFS 2.84

It might be an issue with RISC OS 5.30 as I first noticed it on a new build when testing Partition Manager. I manually updated my main test machine to 5.30 by selectively copying bits out of the latest HD4 zip and its working without issue.

I only loaded, played a bit and then terminated so I'll try playing to round 2 and see if I can reproduce the problem. Can you confirm which package you downloaded...what's the F# ?

Try deleting the package and re-downloading as I'm sure I changed them all to use the latest ADFFS script. If it still occurs, which package did you download?
Vanfanel wrote: Tue May 28, 2024 -About Alone in the Dark, same palette problem with ADFFS 2.84
It's not a new problem, I'm seeing it back as far as I can test.

@Jon

-The Pac-Mania version which has problems with WiFi is FD1050700. I installed the Learnin Curve version instead (FD1044700) and it works fine with WiFi!

-I re-downloaded the Fireball I-II package from !PackMan (deleted the cache prior to that, just in case), but the same "Number too big" error happens.
On !PackMan there is only FD1015700 for Fireball I-II, which is the one I downloaded.

Well that's odd, I didn't think they were that different. I'll see if I can reproduce it

Should be fixed with the latest ADFFS 2.84 beta. I initially couldn't get it to trigger, but did eventually track it down to an issue in *ADFJoystickMouse

I'm still investigating Alone In The Dark. I've tracked it down to a change in ADFFS 2.81n but am still trying to figure out exactly what's causing it.

EDIT: Alone In The Dark should also be fixed with the latest ADFFS 2.84 beta
