ADFFS 2.86 public beta
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
Before I download it, did you address the issue I posted about previously re: Cyberchess?
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
I think I imaged it about 10 years ago and probably would have tested it at the time, but ignored it because it's Wimp based - so not currently supported by ADFFS*, I did speak with the developer last year about obtaining the source code to 32bit it, but that's been delayed because it was found to be corrupt.
As you've found, there's no boot script for it, so provided the recording file covers any disc protection it should run directly on the OS/CPU it was coded for. I've yet to test compatibility, so can't confirm when that list is at the moment.
It's in my next batch of Fourth Dimension titles to work on, which will be after 2.86 is released. Hopefully it just needs a script to get working on RO3.11, I'll quickly test it later on a stock A310 and an A440 with ADFFS to see if it runs.
* I started working on ADFFS 2.90 about a year ago, which hypervises AMBControl, allowing Wimp apps to be supported. To say it's been problematic would be an understatement, it's highlighted several shortcuts the OS takes which are literally game breaking, such as not restoring TLB entries to the same state as when they were swapped out and swapping memory in/out via back-channels.
When I gained approval to release the Fouth Dimension titles last year, I paused development of 2.90 and went back to 2.85 so I could get 2.86 ready to add support them...so once 2.86 is released, I need to merge the changes into the 2.90 branch - which is pretty complicated as there's a lot of overlapping changes. There's a massive diff file that's going to need checking line by line before merging manually.
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
OK, no problem. I will download the latest version then and await the fixes in the later version(s).
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
I've tested Cyber Chess v1.24 on an A4000 and an A440 (ARM3) by mounting the JFD and then running !CyChess directly, it worked okay on both.
If you have a different version, please email it to me so I can see if the recording file needs updating to cover it.
It does have disc protection, but I'm not sure what it does if it fails.
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
I made the recording file without issues, however, when I try to create the JFD it freezes at the compressing stage: "Compressing Track 1 side 1..4%".
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
Cyber Chess? Try using the inbuilt recording and if that works, please send me your recording file and an ADF image of the floppy so I can try to reproduce the issue.
I've successfully imaged dozens of floppies over the past week, so I wonder if it's triggering an edge case.
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
I tried making a JFD using the built-in recording file, and it works. I've emailed you the recording file from my attempt to see if there's an issue there. My original disc claims to be v1.24 (24-Aug-92).
Re: ADFFS 2.86 public beta
The recording file was good and it imaged okay, so I can't explain why it got stuck compressing for you.
