Despite fixing the issues with Cascade and Ballarena, a virus scan / repair did not fix this one. Still freezes shortly after starting a 1-player game.

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to rewrite the main game loop to fix this, but I suspect it has the same IRQ reentrancy issue as Ballarena. I’ll check and get back to you.

Try updating to today's obey.zip, I've not managed to recreate your issue but have removed it's IRQ handler completely and added frame pacing...in the vein hope your issue is IRQ/VSync related.
I've taken the liberty of halving the speed the countdown timer decreases to make it a bit more playable...you can also now adjust the game speed by using CTRL-SHIFT-PgUp/PgDn.
To confirm its working, I've just played it for 2hrs straight on an A440 with no issues.
Great, it's working now, but please restore the timer to its normal rate, I hate cheating!
There is still one small thing though - if you press K to redefine keys (after the intro title sequence), the game will freeze. Also, I noticed that if you try to enter a password, the input can exceed the length of the password input box. Not sure if that's a bug in the original or otherwise.
