Black screen on Pi 1

Post by aschamberlain »

Hi there,

I think this is a great project and it inspired me to dig out my original Model B Pi in order to install Risc OS 5.28 and ADFFS 2.73. However, I've been having a bit of trouble getting the games to display on my TV via HDMI. I can get Lemmings 2 (SA Edition) to display the Psygnosis screen (colours are off) and play the intro music, but it goes to a black screen after that. Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer and Wolfenstein 3D all go straight to a black screen. The Pi responds to Shift-Break while the screen is black in all cases. Any thoughts on things I could try to get it to display correctly?

Many thanks,

Andrew

Did you run through the Pi requirements? In particular, setting the resolution in CONFIG/TXT to 1080P @ 50hz and disabling GPU mode change support in CMDLINE/TXT?

Ah, thanks! I had the disable mode changes argument on a separate line to disable gamma. Once I put them both on the same line separated by a space everything worked except for the SA version of Lemmings 2. Normal Lemmings 2 is fine, but the SA version crashes the Pi after you click on Play Game. Everything I want to play works, so I'm happy. Just thought I'd pass this on in case it's evidence of a bug.

Glad you figured out the issue.

Thanks for the report on Lemmings 2 SA. I also noticed this a few weeks back, but to date haven't pinned down the root cause.
