ADFFS 2.60 Release Candidate testing

Post by JonAbbott »

If testers could reply to this detailing any games they've tested under the current release candidate, I'll update this post to track which have been tested. Play test if possible, detailing any regressions or issues and how to recreate them. Also test CTRL-SHIFT-F12 to terminate the game and note any that cause issues.

If you find a game doesn't work after previously using CTRL-SHIFT-F12 to terminate another game, try a clean boot to see if it was a previously loaded game that's had a knock on effect and try to track down which one it was. The majority of games will give you a "Press SPACE..." prompt when you terminate them, but there are a few recently working ones, which go straight to the desktop. If you're unsure if a game has terminated cleanly, press F12 at the desktop, type *MODULES and check the BASIC Module's address starts FC - if it's 20, the game didn't terminate cleanly and you'll need to reboot.

Testers on original Archimedes need only test a few games at random from the Boot scripts thread.

RC4 is on the dev site, which is a minor fix to get ADFFS working under RO5.23 post 13th Dec 2016. It also includes Boot script fixes for some of the issues I've noticed whilst testing games.

Do you know if this works under Arculator? Because if I press Ctrl+Shift+F12 during gameplay nothing happens. Arculator does react to the keypress on the desktop which causes it to reboot.

No, that's only applicable for games running under the JIT on ARMv5+. ADFFS doesn't really do much under RO3, except provide a virtual floppy drive and attempt to regulate game speed.

RC5 is now on the dev site, which will hopefully be the last. Its taken a week, but I've now tested every known working game on a Pi3 and detailed any issues in the OP, I'm not planning on fixing any more prior to release.

I've quickly tested on the following platforms:
  • A440/1
  • RiscPC ARM700
  • RiscPC StrongARM
  • Iyonix
I tested around five games at random on each platform, so I was either unlucky, or there's a wider issues on legacy platforms:

RiscPC - Lemmings, palette change was occurring at the wrong raster. No Excuses, had no video output. Manchester United, either didn't see disc 2 or had crashed. Sensible Soccer, the screen geometry was wrong.

Iyonix - Ballarena, sits on a grey screen. Axis, was reporting "Broken directory" on disc 1.
