I notice that saving of scores / progress is not working for this game. I have checked that the 2nd disk is not write-protected, and it is not, but nothing is being saved.

It might need installing to hard disc, check the
Boot script for instructions.
I suspect it might be saving, but it's not being written back to the JFD. A quick way to force it is to swap floppies, which will re-write the JFD file if the contents have changed and it's been flagged to flush contents. I'll have to check the floppy was set to flush contents when imaged, but I'm fairly certain it can be done in the JFD imager so worst case just re-image the JFD with Flush enabled if you don't want to install it to HD.

I had a look in the F1022501 file, it has instructions for HD install. I followed those instructions, but when I double click the !TEMPLE file (with ADFFS open) I just get a black screen with a flashing cursor at the top left, nothing else happens. I'm running from a ZIDEFS drive, not sure if that will be an issue? I notice in the F1022501 file that "ADFS" is used.

ZIDEFS won't be an issue and only touches ADFS if its booted via Boot floppy.
It does stuff keys into the keyboard buffer so it can alter
GameDir.TitleScr - its possible that's the issue. Make sure no keys are being pressed when launched and failing that, launch !TEMPLE manually from the Supervisor prompt and if it still appears to hang press CTRL-F and see if you see a BASIC command-line when you hit ENTER a few times. That will confirm if it's the patching causing the issue.

I did Ctrl+F then ENTER and was able to break into the BASIC program:
Here are the files in the desktop window, in case that has any bearing on anything:
The !Run file is just the file for the game from the obey zip. That's not the file I run.

The patching hasn't worked then. When at the BASIC commandline, what does this do:

Nothing happens, I just get the next ">" prompt.

What does the following do at the Supervisor prompt:
Code: Select all
set key$0 test
FX 225,1
FX 138,0,128
EDIT: If the above displays "test", update
obey.zip

Yes, it output "test". Tried the new obey file and it now loads. However, there's now another issue - after Game Over and entering your name, the "RETURN" input seem to also carry over to the title screen and the game starts again straight away. It definitely did not do this previously. Also, two other things:
- there's a bit in the F1022501 file that states "Bypass protection due to bugs in the code", which I thought would remove the colour entry screen but doesn't seem to work?
- !ADFFS is on the root of my hard drive, so it is always seen by the OS whenever I switch the machine on. Is there any way that the game's !Run file can be adjusted so it runs ADFFS before loading the game so I don't have to manually load ADFFS first?
